When choosing window coverings for your home there are many aspects to consider. Privacy is one of the most common reasons home owners require blinds or curtains in their home. If privacy is your main requirement then read on as here we list our top 5 options.
- Shutters – Plantation Shutters are the ultimate window covering for privacy for both day and night. With louvreable blades that can be positioned to get the best of light control and cooling breezes, shutters will provide you with a solution for all times of the day.
- Sheer and blockout curtains on a double rail – Sheer curtains will give you the daytime privacy and the filtered light you need without blocking your view. Blockout curtains will provide night time privacy as well as light and warmth control.
- Day/Night roller blinds – As with sheer and blockout curtains sunscreen fabric roller blinds will give you privacy during the day as well protection from the heat and glare. A blockout roller blind provides you with night time privacy and light control.
- Venetians – traditional Venetian blinds are still a winner providing privacy whilst allowing light and breeze to filter into your home. The blades can be moved to suit your requirements at different times of the day.
- Panel Glide Blinds in light filtering fabrics – A translucent fabric is a lovely option for providing privacy in an area that does not need to be darkened. Living areas that need privacy will sometimes need filtered light and sun control without making the room dark. Translucent fabrics provide privacy night and day.

The recently attended Blind Expo at the Gold Coast was a huge hit. Held every 3 years it is a showcase for manufacturers and suppliers in our industry to present new products or promote existing ones. It is also a chance to catch up with people from the industry that are spread over Australia. Here is a bit of a taste of what’s coming out soon.

Our latest room re-do at the beautiful Maleny Manor has just been completed and I would love to share some photos with you. Marlene asked for something classical with a French Country look but with a little pop of colour. Together we chose a classical damask style fabric in Taupe with a co-ordinating plain from Charles Parsons as our starting point. This was used for the coverlet, curtains, pelmet and cushions. To add some glamour and zing I chose a luscious velvet from Wilson Fabrics, Avida in Cornsilk, for the bed head and bed valance as well as more cushions and then the pop of colour was brought in with Ken Bimler’s Tudor Rose ‘Taupe’. For light filtering and privacy sheer curtains in Nettex Pulse ‘Champagne’ are also used. Here are the results I hope you love it as much as we do.

We have just received a new hanger from the Slender Morris library that I am very excited about. It is a gorgeous print collection named The Abbey Road Collection. There are four colour ranges and each colour has three designs. Portobello V is a lovely floral print in 100% linen, Sussex Stripe is a classic variegated stripe with a composition of 52% linen and 48% cotton and the Bray Flamestitch is also 100% linen. The range would be perfect for a combination of drapes, roman blinds, cushions and light upholstery. The colours are fresh, fun and contemporary whilst still being classical and timeless.

The Confidence in Textiles label shows that the fabric you are looking at has been tested for harmful chemicals and is safe for use in your home. Read more…
